How do I measure when ordering perforated grilles?
For the best visual presentation and performance (optimal air flow), the overall grille will be sized so that the opening (vent or duct) will be covered by the patterned area and a border will surround that pattern. Border size and pattern size can be varied to your preference.
Inspect your opening to be sure it is clear; in other words, there are no obstructions that might interfere with the grille fitting into or over that opening.
Then measure top to bottom for the height (H) and left to right for the length (L) of your opening. This information will be provided to your customer support team here at Advanced Arch Grilles to determine the best fit for your opening.
If you require a certain-sized border, you can specify the dimensions (both height and length) of the border. Or if you prefer, your customer support team can recommend an aesthetically-pleasing and proportioned border size for the grille you select.
How do I measure when ordering linear bar grilles?
Linear bar grilles, with or without a frame will typically fit into an opening. Inspect your opening to be sure it is clear; in other words, there are no obstructions that might interfere with the grille fitting into that opening.
Then measure top to bottom for the height (H) and left to right for the length (L) of your opening. This information will be provided to your customer support team here to determine the best fitting grille for your opening.
With A Frame or Band Frame grilles (flangeless), the grille size for both the height and length will be 1/16” less than the dimensions of the opening to ensure proper clearance.
With B Frame, C Frame, or Bead Frame grilles (flanged), the grille neck size for both the height and length will be 1/8” less than the dimensions of the opening to ensure proper clearance.
How can I determine the open area of a perforated grille?
Artistry in Architectural Grilles provides an Open Area Calculator in the perforated grille section which enables you to calculate the open area in square inches and percentage open for the full range of perforated grilles.
Simply select a grille style and enter the overall grille height and length along with the dimensions of the opening where the grille will be placed. The overall grille will be sized so that the opening will be covered by the patterned area and a border will surround that pattern.

What is anodizing and what are the advantages of anodizing?
Anodizing is an electromechanical process whereby an aluminum, architectural grille is placed in a water and sulfuric acid bath and exposed to positive and negative electrical charges. The process causes a conversion of the molecules on the architectural grille’s surface which adds a thin protective layer of anodic material.
The change in surface material provides a durable, corrosion-resistant, easy-to-clean, and decorative finish that gives anodized aluminum grilles a rich character.
An anodized finish is preferred when your advanced architectural quality grilles will be used in a moisture rich environment, on a window or sill exposed to sunlight (UV light), for an outdoor application or for a floor grille which may be exposed to foot traffic or cleaning solvents. The Advanced Arch Grilles team can provide various anodized finishes including clear satin anodized, black satin anodized, and bronze duranodic anodized in both light and dark which provides a bronze, statuary look.
